Grand Easter Exhibition 2008

The 2008 Grand Easter Exhibition of the Yarra Glen Art Show was again held at Balgownie Estate, Yarra Valley over March 21st - March 24th 2008.

On another gala opening night, Steels Creek Art Group Leader Malcolm Calder and Shire of Yarra Ranges Councillor Jeanette McRae opened the exhibition to a crowd of invited guests. Spectators are seen admiring one of the over 100 paintings on exhibit at the Show.

Judges Janice Mc Bride and Richard Granville-Smith evaluated all the entries for the work that best represented the Yarra Valley. They selected three works as being the best in this perspective: "Landscape", an oil painting by Cherry Manders (next to picture of judges), "Long Shadows", a watercolour by Raelene Sharp (below left), and "Dalry Road", and oil by Joke Frijlink (below right).

Mc Bride and Granville-Smith also commended works by Margaret McGlothlin, Teresa Blazinac, Carol Ballinger, Joan Denner, Chris Griskscheit, and Gabriele Pelling for their artistic merit.

Thank you to all those who participated in making this art show such a success. The support of the community and Balgownie Estate has created a significant arts event in the Yarra Valley for six years running.

We are delighted to be able to make a significant contribution to the Good Friday Appeal supporting the Royal Children’s Hospital.

Two works of art valued at more than $ 2500 will be donated to the fire brigades of Dixons Creek and Yarra Glen.

Commissions raised from the sale of artworks this year are going to The Good Friday Appeal. The common goal of the "Good Friday Appeal" is to raise money for The Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne, and to ensure that all children with life threatening illnesses receive the best possible medical and clinical care. Past Exhibitions have resulted in over $15,000 being donated to the Good Friday Appeal and LARCH, another fund of the Royal Children's Hospital.
