Thank you to all those who participated in making this art show such a success. The support of the community and Balgownie Estate has created a significant arts event in the Yarra Valley.

We are delighted to be able to make a significant contribution to the Good Friday Appeal supporting the Royal Children's Hospital.

On a gala opening night, Steels Creek Art Group Leader Malcolm Calder and Shire of Yarra Ranges Councillor Jeanette McRae opened the exhibition to a crowd of invited guests. Cr McRae and John Lowe are seen admiring one of the over 100 paintings on exhibit at the 2006 Show.

Judges Bruce Grahame and Margaret McLoughlin, evaluated all the entries for the work that best represented the Yarra Valley. They selected "Balloons over Yarra Valley", an oil painting by Christine Cafarella-Pearce as the "Best of Show" for representing the Yarra Valley. The judges are shown here with Christine Mullen, organizer of this show.

Christine Cafarella-Pearce: "Balloons Over the Yarra Valley", Oil $ 1950
Could be a hackneyed subject; beautifully captures the highly atmospheric, dramatic, early morning light. Brush strokes are loose, capturing the movement of the subject. Cool blues highly appropriate, with warm sunny patches breaking through. # 60
Noel Nicholson: "Wetlands Reborn", Gouache, $ 1200
Captures the wetlands beautifully; movement of the birds, and water. Free technique, beautiful caligraphy. The eye moves THROUGH the painting. # 259
Dieter Prussner: "A Good Harvest", Digital, $ 475
Eye catching; all the elements of a good wine harvest. Rich colours, clear images, lovely composition using modern technology. #304

More than $5,000 worth of art was sold on the night and many conoissers stayed on to dine with the artists in Balgownie's lovely restaurant. Come and see what all of the buzz is about!!!

General scene from the opening Faye de Pasquale sells another painting Joss and Alan Smith from Lirra Lirra Vineyard do an "art tasting"

On the show days, we have an artist in residence to answer questions. Balgownie Estate is a relaxing venue with an excellent restaurant and selections of wines make the visit refershing and and enjoyable.

Commissions raised from the sale of artworks this year went to The Good Friday Appeal. The common goal of the "Good Friday Appeal" is to raise money for The Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne, and to ensure that all children with life threatening illnesses receive the best possible medical and clinical care. Past Exhibitions have resulted in over $12,000 being donated to LARCH, another fund of the Royal Children's Hospital.

Thank you to the artists who participated in the show and the sponsors who also made it possible..
