STEELS CREEK COMMUNITY - AFTER THE FIREAfter the devastating fires from 7 February 2009 (being referred to as "Black Saturday"), the Steels Creek community rallyed to begin the healing. Morning tea was served, hugs exchanged, and announcements and information provided to those present. 102 people signed the book. A bit of what transpired... Scones seemed to be the order of the day - along with lots of tea and coffee. Keith Montell, President of the SCCC Committee, related information about help from the relief center and some of the services and resources available to get people going again who lost a little or a lot. (See the assistance page for more details.) Malcolm Calder recited remembrances on those we neighbors we know who did not survive the fire:
John & Jenny Barnett Greg and Gail Leonard The Shire of Yarra Ranges announced that residents who lost their home in the bushfires will not have to pay rates this year, and the council will also refund any instalments that had already been paid.
